| Abstract/Notes | New chemical data on galena from eleven hydrothermal quartz-magnetite-fluorite bearing veins in Skien Vestmark (western region of Skien) reveal, for most of the samples, the presence of significant content of Bi and Ag. In six of the galena samples, Bi is present in excess of the amount of Ag required to balance the substitutional scheme Ag+ + Bi3+ ↔ 2Pb2+. These galena samples show octahedral cleavage due to vacancies in the crystal structure. Galena, with less excess Bi, shows cubic cleavage. Cosalite is an accessory mineral in six of the localities and occurs as fibrous crystals in vugs or as inclusions and exsolutions in galena, but only in those with high excess Bi. Chemical data on the cosalite samples from Skien Vestmark reveal that they have minor content of Ag, Cu, Te og Se. A lillianite-like phase has been identified from one of the localities (Sandåen prospect c). | ||
