Abstract/NotesThe Kirov Regional Museum of Local History has a collection of minerals and rocks of the Earth formed by Petr Vladimirovich Alabin, consisting of 404 samples.
Bright and significant pages in the history and culture of the Vyatka region are associated with the name of P.V. Alabin. P.V. Alabin lived in the city of Vyatka for more than 8 years (1857-1866), served here as the manager of the Vyatka appanage office. On October 12, 1861, he was elected manager of the Vyatka public library. In 1863, a decision was made to establish the Vyatka Public Museum at the library. This year, the collection of museum exhibits began. Archival documents contain information about how P.V. Alabin collected a collection of minerals and rocks for the museum. Beginning in 1863, he sent out letters asking for assistance in creating the Vyatka Public Museum through donations or exhibits. In September 1863, the Mining Department of the Ministry of Finance sent a letter to P. V. Alabin asking: "...do you think it necessary to have in the mineral collection of the Public Museum, in addition to Russian minerals, also minerals from foreign deposits"
