I'm a field collector from Nova Scotia, Canada. I began collecting minerals in the late 1990s. after joining the Nova Scotia Mineral and Gem Society. There I met some serious, dedicated and knowledgeable collectors who taught me how to field collect and prepare specimens as well as the requirements for a good mineral specimen.

While I'm always interested in aesthetic specimens, I have a soft spot for rare minerals. I love finding minerals that have not previously been reported from Nova Scotia. I also like to pull together literature and photos related to minerals and mines from the province and maintain a website, 'The Mineralogy of Nova Scotia'. There is a fair bit of material but it can be difficult to track down. I have also been a longtime MinDat member (originally number 208, but changed recently due to problems). Finally, I enjoy mineral photography.

The vast majority of my collection is self collected Nova Scotia minerals, but I also have a passion for calcite. I particularly like the complex crystallography of calcite. I also collect worldwide specimens of other species; especially attractive miniatures and small cabinet pieces.

I like to think of Nova Scotia in terms of several geologic units. These are the Bay of Fundy Triassic basalts, the Carboniferous sedimentary rocks, the Devonian granites, the Cambrian-Ordovician gold bearing series, and other rocks. Examples from each are shown below, with the gold bearing and other rocks combined.
